This summer, the latest installments of famous franchises reign supreme on cinema screens - Indiana Jones and Mission: Impossible. As it turns out, the shows have another common point besides serving viewers with great entertainment and introducing new adventures of favorite characters.

As confessed by Christopher McQuarrie in a recent interview with Total Film, the creators of Dead Reckoning Part One intended to rejuvenate Tom Cruise using CGI for a sequence set in the protagonist's past. They were going to do it in a similar way to Harrison Ford in the opening scenes of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

"Originally, there was a whole sequence at the beginning of the film that took place in 1989. We talked about it as an opening scene, a flashback, and worked on rejuvenation."

So why was this idea abandoned and the process of CGI rejuvenation not successfully completed, as was the case with the famous archaeologist, and instead young Ethan Hunt was played by another actor? Director Christopher McQuarrie had a very good reason for this.

"The most important thing during the research process was that I kept saying: 'This rejuvenation is really good' or 'This rejuvenation is not good.' I stopped focusing on the story at all."

This explanation of the abandonment of CGI rejuvenation plans really makes a lot of sense. Surely the viewers who have already seen the opening sequence of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. During the scenes with the "young" Ford, attention really went mainly to Indiana's appearance, and the events receded into the background. It is possible that it must take some time for the new technology to become commonplace, and for the characters created in this way to cease to be such a sensation.
