To say that Darth Vader is popular is like saying nothing. The powerful Sith lord has been a household name since his first appearance in A New Hope and has become an integral part and symbol of global pop culture. The emotion generated in the community by the character created by George Lucas could be felt on the set of Ahsoka, when filming a short scene with Vader.

During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly Ahsoka's showrunner Dave Filoni, revealed that although the villain's appearance was limited to just walking in a straight line, this one sequence drew a lot of people to the set eager to see the legend return. This just goes to show how much responsibility rests on filmmakers who want to use the character of the fallen Jedi in their productions. Filoni added that it was extremely important not to detract from the character in the process.

“All Vader had to do was walk in a line. But so many people came to set just to see somebody in a Darth Vader costume, walking in a straight line! You realize the power of these characters and the archetypes that George Lucas created, and that’s a real responsibility. You never want that to lessen. You have to keep that as the powerful thing it is;” he explained.

Given Filoni's words, it makes sense why only for such a tiny moment of Vader was presented in Ahsoka. Of course, the eventual duel between the Sith Lord and Anakin's former student could be very spectacular, but there would be a potential risk of over-doing it with the character and a feeling that Lucasfilm is simply preying on viewers' sentiment.

Will the iconic villain still appear in other Star Wars prouctions? Perhaps, but Filoni, who has been named the creative director of Lucasfilm, will certainly stand by to make sure we don't experience an excess of Vader.
