We Know How Much Netflix Spent on The Witcher

Streaming platforms usually do not brag about how much they spend on their projects. As a result, TV show budgets are often a big mystery. Nevertheless, production companies operating in the UK are forced by the local law to disclose their financial statements in order to claim tax breaks.

It is thanks to this that information related to Netflix's The Witcher has recently leaked to the public. Journalists of the Forbes magazine analyzed the data in question and revealed that the platform spent about $318.7 million on the first two seasons of the series starring Henry Cavill and the prequel, which starred Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh.

According to published information Netflix paid $92.1 million for the first season of The Witcher, or an average of $11.5 million per episode. Interestingly, the budget for the second season almost doubled, to $176.3 million. This in turn gives an average of $22 million per episode.

As for The Witcher: Blood Origin, the four-episode show cost $50.3 million. It is worth noting, however, that this amount does not take into account additional expenses related to reshots and post-production, which could significantly increase the amount.

Unfortunately, Forbes' report does not contain information on the costs for the third and final season with Henry Cavill in the role of Geralt. However, given the ever-increasing production costs, it is to be expected that the upcoming episodes were more expensive than the previous ones.

Finally, let's emphasize that, despite such an impressive budget, Netflix is not the king of the most expensive shows. The leader of the list continues to be Amazon Prime Video with its Rings of Power and Citadel.
