Although The Walking Dead has already come to an end, fans' tears will soon be wiped away with the premiere of a spin-off focusing on Daryl Dixon. As announced by the creators of the production, the upcoming show will introduce to quite a few novelties the post-apocalyptic universe, including a completely new kind of zombies.

However, it seems that the plot of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon may seem surprisingly familiar to fans of the show. After all, the new series will focus on the title character, whose task will be to carry a certain boy across the country, in order to save humanity in the process. So it's hard not to notice the similarities between the story from the spin-off about Dixon and the adventures of the characters from The Last of Us.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly producer Greg Nicotero addressed the issue of these similarities. The filmmaker pointed out that the script of Daryl Dixon was already written when Craig Mazin's show was released on small screens.

"I remember when I watched the first episode of The Last of Us and I said: 'Ummm... guys?'. We were at an advanced stage of production when The Last of Us debuted. I liked the show very much," he said.

However, the producer pointed out some differences between the show with Pedro Pascal and the spin-off to The Walking Dead:

"It's a continuation of Daryl's story. He wants to deliver this kid, but that's not his only goal.. He has people at home and his goal is to get back to them. (...) I think the idea of Dixon's relationship with this kid may be reminiscent of The Last of Us, but once you get into that journey, I think you stop feeling the similarity. These are different enough shows that you can enjoy both of them.

Recall that the upcoming spin-off is set in France. The creators announce that with this production they want to focus on the quality, not necessarily on box office results.

Premiere of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will take place as early as September 10, 2023.
