Please note, the following text contains spoilers about Secret Invasion.

Secret Invasion has now come to an end and, unfortunately, it has by no means turned out to be as successful a production as we had hoped. Moreover, the final episode is the lowest rated episode in the entire MCU history. As a result of the show's events, the universe had to say goodbye to Cobie Smulders and Ben Mendelsohn, whose characters, Maria Hill and Talos, have died.

As in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter the show's director, Ali Selim, reported that the actors did not balk at leaving the MCU. While we might suspect that such a reaction might have to do with the show not being well received by fans, the creator of Secret Invasion cites completely different reasons for the actors' reaction.

"With Cobie Smulders, it's impossible to be sad. She has a "yes" attitude to life. She shows up, does what she loves, and brings an amazing spirit to it. She and Sam had a bittersweet goodbye, but who knows where Maria Hill will ultimately end up. I don't think she has any superpowers or serum that would enable her to live forever, but after all, there could always be a movie set before 2023, and Maria Hill could appear in it."

For the same reason, the departure from the MCU didn't particularly affect Ben Mendelsohn:

"In Ben's case it was similar. He loves being in the MCU, he's grateful to be in it, but if they wanted to kill him off, he agreed. After all, he knows, that anything can happen in the MCU, and they can bring him back if they can figure out how to do it."

There is no denying that in the Marvel universe, indeed, almost nothing is impossible, and the death of a hero does not mean that he or she will no longer appear in the franchise. After all, thay can always return at least in the memories of the heroes who are left alive.

Recall that Marvel Cinematic Universe productions can be found on Disney+.
