Please note, the following text reveals the plot of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny!

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is a unique production for at least several reasons. Not only does the film finalize a 42-year-old series, but it is also the first work that Steven Spielberg did not directly supervise the creation of. In charge of the fresh approach to the series this time was the creator of Logan - James Mangold. And although the result of his efforts was met with mixed reviews, the creator cannot be denied a lack of ideas for the story's finale. One of them he recently revealed on the occasion of an interview with Inverse.

Recall that in the movie, Voller, portrayed by Mads Mikkelsen, plans to use the title artifact to go back to 1939 and replace Hitler at the head of the Nazis. Instead, the antagonist together with Indy is transported to 200 BC, where the device is in the process of being created by Archimedes. As it turns out, however, Mangold originally planned for the heroes to actually move to Nazi Germany.

"I don't make a decision without considering many options. It seemed an interesting solution if Mads' theory turned out to be correct and we actually ended up in Nazi Germany. The third act of the film would have focused on Indiana trying to thwart Mads' plans. However, the more I thought about it, the more it became a spy movie."

For this reason, the director rejected the aforementioned idea - Indiana Jones is, after all, an adventure movie. And what does the filmmaker think of the ultimately accepted ending?

"The idea immediately moved me. Indy suddenly had to face something he had only imagined all his life. Suddenly he finds himself in a reality he had previously only looked at through the keyhole of history and artifacts. A great moment that only Harrison could have played," Mangold added.

Did the filmmaker make the right decision by abandoning the original concept? You'll have to answer that question for yourselves. Nevertheless, you have to admit that the director's idea was quite interesting.
