Producer Reveals House of Dragon Season Count; More Than Originally Expected

How many seasons will House of the Dragon count? HBO's producer has some very good news for fans of the show.

George R. R. Martin created unique stories and encapsulated them in a series of books that captivated readers. Years later, when it was decided to bring the novels to the screens, no one could have predicted the great cultural impact the Game of Thrones would have. The now iconic show accompanied viewers for years and ended after eight seasons. However, the unquenchable curiosity and affection of fans prompted the creators to expand the universe.

Thus in the summer of 2022, the prequel show titled House of the Dragon debuted. The show, based on the book Fire and Blood achieved incredible success and was no worse to the original show in terms of performance. The production was set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and the plot focused on house Targaryen, the ruling family at the time.

Work is currently underway on a second season. However, it turns out that the show may last longer than initially expected. During an interview with Deadline, HBO producer Francesa Orsi confessed that the specific number of seasons has not yet been finally determined, but it is highly likely that at least four will be needed to close the story.

“It hasn’t been finalized yet, it’s still under discussion. George [R.R. Martin - ed. note] and Ryan [Condal] are going to meet after the writers strike. They had originally planned to meet before the strike took place and that was to figure out at what point the series itself was going to end. Is it four seasons? I don’t think from where I sit at this point will be any less than four. But could be more. We’ll see.”

This statement probably means that House of the Dragon will indeed be a journey for many years to come. At this point, however, most viewers are waiting for the second season, whose release date has not yet been confirmed.
