After 27 Years, Star Wars Explains Leia's Role in New Republic

The fifth episode of Ahsoka showed that Leia Organa is an important person in the structures of the New Republic. She is able to cover up Hera's unauthorized mission to go find Ahsoka and Sabine. The latest, seventh episode proved that Anakin Skywalker's daughter has climbed the career ladder and holds arguably one of the most important positions in the government.

Let's go back to the third episode of the show for a moment. In it, we can see Hera reporting her findings so far and would like authorization for another mission. She does not obtain it, but nevertheless departs. We can only guess, but belonging to the Armed Forces of the New Republic, the general communicated on the matter with Leia, who knew from the very beginning what was going on.

Already in the seventh episode, Hera is facing the same council, and she has Senator Xiono as her main opponent. The man does not believe the reports of possible coordinated actions of the Empire's remnants and wants to punish the character for disobedience at all costs. She's saved by C-3PO, who informs those gathered that Senator Leia Organa authorized Hera's mission and any problems should be reported to her, since she serves as chairman of the Defense Council.

This information reveals why Leia was able to cover for Hera. She doesn't need any acquaintances, as she is the one who oversees the Armed Forces of the New Republic and has insight into everything she desires. Thus, Leia replaced Senator Behn-kihl-nahm in this position, who in the 1996 novel Before the Storm served as chairman of the Defense Council.

Ahsoka clarifies Leia's role in the New Republic, bridging the gap between the original Star Wars trilogy and the sequels. It is apparent that the heroine was ready to use her powers to the fullest to implement actions beyond the bureaucracy of the New Republic.
