Please note, the following text contains spoilers from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and the TV series Ahsoka.

Although the original Star Wars trilogy is still considered the best part of the entire Star Wars saga, it was not free of all sorts of mistakes and shortcomings. One of the biggest and also most memorable took place in Return of the Jedi, when Luke had to fight Jabba's thugs in the desert.

As one of the opponents throws himself at the young Jedi, the latter kicks him off a flying barge. There would be nothing unusual about this, if it weren't for the fact that Skywalker's leg didn't make any contact with his opponent.

The most interesting thing, however, is that the choreography error was very quickly picked up by fans, who began referring to it as a "Force kick." A few months ago, the hilarious mishap was also mentioned by Luke's actor Mark Hamill, who wrote on X/Twitter:

The popularity "Force kick" has gained has led to its inclusion in the Star Wars canon. In a collection of short stories published this year, titled A Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi (via Inverse) the victim of the kick says he was thrown off the barge without any contact with Luke's leg.

We also witnessed a Force kick, or rather push during the seventh episode of Ahsoka. As Ezra and Sabine are attacked by a group of enemies, Bridger refuses to accept his lightsaber, and instead just uses Skywalker's technique to knock down the opponents.

With this, 40 years after the release of Return of the Jedi, a once amusing mistake has turned into a completely serious skill. In turn, such a long absence of the "Force kick" in the universe can be explained by the fact that it requires many years of hard work and really great talent from the Jedi.
