Is Rebel Moon part of Star Wars? Origin of Zack Snyder's sci-fi film

At present, there's probably no larger or more well-known science fiction universe than Star Wars. In such a vast universe, there is room for many stories, and at one point, Zack Snyder also wanted to tell one of them. Although the idea for production came to him long before any potential collaboration, he had to wait a long time for its realization.

Zack Snyder gave it a try when Disney took over Lucasfilm. At the time, it was unclear how the situation would develop and what the studio would be willing to bet on. The director intended to make a movie inspired by Seven Samurai, but set in the Star Wars universe. Snyder mentioned among his demands that the film is intended for adults, to which Disney didn't want to agree.

As a result, Seven Jedi didn't come to fruition, and Zack Snyder's path with Star Wars drifted apart. Later, there were plans to make a TV series, and eventually Rebel Moon evolved into films series made in collaboration with Netflix. The director may have been initially let down by such a development, unlike his wife, Deborah Snyder, and Eric Newman. They both believed that in cooperation with the giant, Zack Snyder's hands would be too tightly tied.

Viewers can now assess whether it has really turned out well, as the movie Rebel Moon - Part 1: A Child of Fire is available on Netflix. The famous director was meant to have complete control over the production, allowing him to fully realize his artistic vision. Rebel Moon - Part 2: The Scargiver is set to be released on April 19, 2024, continuing the story from A Child of Fire.
