Rebel Moon Star Almost Played Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars; Everything Went Wrong Dye to Awkward Meeting With George Lucas

Zack Snyder himself admitted that Rebel Moon is in some way modeled on Star Wars. It turns out that the cast of Netflix's space opera could have included a veteran of the brand. Charlie Hunnam revealed that he had applied for the role of Anakin Skywalker in 1999. George Lucas was said to have personally met with only a few of the actors and the star of Sons of Anarchy was on the list. Unfortunately, the face-to-face conversation ended unsuccessfully for the artist and thus it was Hayden Christensen who got the role (vide Entertainment Weekly).

In a recent interview, Charlie Hunnam admitted that he had forgotten about the event. However, he was reminded of his dissatisfaction with the conversation with Lucas and his belief that he had certainly failed to convince the creator of one of the biggest film universes:

In the end, the actor said that sometimes it's just about the chemistry, the atmosphere and the emotions being conveyed. Being upset certainly didn't help, and only contributed to the squandering of Charlie Hunnam's chance to appear in Star Wars. Now the actor will make his debut in another space universe: Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon, where he plays the role of mercenary Kai.

The movie has been split into two parts. Rebel Moon - Part 1: A Child of Fire will premiere tomorrow, i.e. December 22, on Netflix. There's even a unique director's cut of the movie, which is expected to include more than just the addition of cut scenes.
