This Scene Could Have Saved Season 3 of The Mandalorian

For many of the main characters of The Mandalorian season 3 ended on a positive note. This group does not include Moff Gideon, whose plans to take control of Mandalore failed. The series also showed what Gideon was hiding and it was a small private army of his own clones. However, what they were capable of was not shown, as they were destroyed very quickly.

It seems, however, that the creators may have had other plans at the beginning. Some time ago, the actor who player Moff Gideon, Giancarlo Esposito, posted some photos from the set on his Instagram profile. They showed, among other things, frames that ultimately were not found placed in The Mandalorian. They show the main antagonist in the place where the clones were located.

Smoke is rising from the containers shown in the images, and in this case there are two options: Gideon appeared after the clones were destroyed, or the clones were originally planned to be released into the wild and the Moff oversaw the whole process. The second option seems much more interesting and would give a broader view of what Din Djarin's enemy cared about from the very beginning of the series.

Gideon pursued Grogu because he needed the former Jedi padawan for his cloning experiments. In the third season, viewers were finally able to see where the research was headed, but the results were never shown. Giancarlo Esposito's photos may be from when the idea for the season was still crystallizing and various options were being considered. It's a shame that the clone plot was eventually abandoned. Because of this, the whole plot concerning cloning seems wasted.
