Mangold's Dawn of the Jedi Not About Jedi? Director Clarifies Movie Concept

It turns out that James Mangold's upcoming movie, Dawn of the Jedi, may not be about the Jedi at all... And the very concept of the movie was probably misunderstood by the fans.

At this year's Star Wars Celebration, three new films set in the Star Wars universe were announced. Recent weeks have given us more and more details about them. Among the announced titles was a work of James Mangold, which - at least on the surface - was supposed to tell the story of the first Jedi. Meanwhile, as it has just turned out, the center of the story need not be the legendary knights at all.

Dawn of the Jedi was initially described as a show set some 25,000 years before the events known from A New Hope. This, along with the suggestive title of the work, suggested that the main plot would be the origin of the Jedi Order. The matter was clarified by James Mangold.

In an interview with Gizmodo the filmmaker discussed the concept of Dawn of the Jedi. The plot of the movie will be about the Force, a mysterious force present throughout the universe, and its first users who were not knights.

"For me, it’s about, I want to be part of the saga, but I also don’t want to be holding so much lore in the air that you can hardly tell a story. And what I really wanted to do, what I told her, was just can we make a kind of the Ten Commandments of the Force, you know? A kind of origin story of how the Force came to be known, understood, wielded, and harnessed," the director explained.

It should be noted, therefore, that if the movie tells the story of the origins of the Force, the story could take place even many thousands of years before the rise of the first Jedi. In addition, the title of the show itself has not yet been officially announced. Dawn of the Jedi is only the name of the era in which events will take place. In turn, this period goes back much further than the very beginnings of the Order.

It is also worth mentioning that at Star Wars Celebration the director mentioned his inspiration from The Ten Commandments from 1956, announcing that his work will be, in a sense, a biblical show.

At this point, the exact release date of Mangold's movie is unknown.
