Early in the year Tomb Raider fans heard great news. Amazon plans to create a comprehensive universe about Lara Croft. It is to include movies and TV shows, as well as a new video game.

One cannot deny the ambition of the creators who want to combine such different projects. For the plan to succeed, they need people who will prove themselves at developing this beloved franchise. So the decision-makers bet on brand experts and engaged Phoebe Waller-Bridge to write for the show. The acclaimed screenwriter and actress privately remains a fan of Tomb Raider games.

Waller-Bridge does not hide her excitement about working on a TV show about the British adventurer. In an interview with Vanity Fair she revealed some details about her approach and plans to lead the project.

"God, I literally felt the teenager in me say: "Take good care of her, take good care of her!" The opportunity to develop, as we said earlier, a female action hero... I feel that through my work on the Bond script and through my work as an actress in Indiana Jones I am prepared for this. What if I could take the helm of an action series, with everything I've learned, a character I love, and just bring back some of the vibe of the 1990s? It's a wonderful feeling when you think you know what to do. I feel that when you work in the industry, you have to give in to the wave. There's room to do something really dangerous. And if I can do something dangerous and exciting with Tomb Raider, then I already have an audience that loves Lara, and hopefully will continue to. It's a very unusual situation. It's the old Trojan horse."

Amazon has an ambitious plan, but it will be forced to meet the demands of Lara Croft fans. After the Tomb Raider movie from 2018, which received mixed reviews, enthusiasts are hoping for a worthy film adaptation of the story of the iconic lady archaeologist.
