Mortal Kombat 2 Cast Gained New Names; Who'll Play Shao Kahn, Quan Chi, Sindel and Jerrod?

Sequel to Mortal Kombat (2021) is expanding its cast. In May 2023, it was revealed that Karl Urban will play the role of Johnny Cage and Adeline Rudolph - Kitana. Now it's time for us to get to know other important characters for the universe. New Line has introduced the actors playing Shao Khan, King Jerrod, Queen Sindel and Quan Chi (via Deadline).

The ruler of the Outworld will be played by Martyn Ford. The roles of Edenia's leaders and Kitana's parents will be played by Desmond Chiam and Ana Thu Nguyen, while the sorcerer of the Netherrealm will be played by Damon Herriman. Unfortunately, still no details about the story have been provided, but the presented cast goes some way to suggest what to expect. The actors will play characters who are collectively strongly connected to certain events.

And so Mortal Kombat 2 may depict Sindel and Kitana's memories of Shao Khan's conquest of Edenia. There is also the option that it is the events of the expansion itself that will be shown in the upcoming movie. This would explain the hiring of Desmond Chiam in the role of Jerrod, who, after all, was killed during the Mortal Kombat tournament when Khan wanted to conquer Edenia.

In the popular series, Edenia was conquered by the Outworld long before the events shown in the games. The new film saga would switch places between these events, unless indeed Jerrod appears only in the memories of other characters. Work on the film is expected to continue until the end of September this year, so there's a good chance that before the end of 2023 we'll know something about the plot or we'll even get the first trailer.
