It was more something like: 'Hey, we have something to discuss.' Pedro was on our list from the very beginning. We were told he wasn't available, and then, when we were a little hesitant, I got a call from his [McConaughey's] agent, who said: 'You know, he might be available.'" The filmmaker later added: "Matthew McConaughey is an amazing actor. I'm sure he would be great, but he would be different, and I like what we did, so what can I say, I think it worked out." McConaughey is an award-winning actor and he would certainly have handled the role. In the end, however, Pedro Pascal played a character that has become a viewer favorite.
