Marvel Begged Writers to Write a Decent Loki, Taking Inspiration From Famous X-Men Villain

Even before the days of Thanos, it was Loki who was made to be the Avengers' main adversary - and indeed he was in the first movie dedicated to this group of superheroes. The behind-the-scenes work on this character was revealed by Zack Stentz, screenwriter of Thor 2011.

Loki is supposed to be as good as X-Men's main antagonist

Some time ago, the aforementioned screenwriter was a guest on The Fanboy Podcast, where he addressed the issue of creating the character of Loki for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Stentz revealed that even before the debut of this character in Thor the managers wanted to make him the main antagonist in The Avengers. At the time, they told the screenwriting team that Loki was supposed to be as good a villain as Magneto, and asked them to focus on that.

As a result, the team managed to create a really solid character, who is still part of the MCU today, although he managed to die once. However, thanks to the rules of the multiverse, Marvel fans can still follow his fate - the next opportunity will be at the beginning of October, as that's when Disney+ will release the first episode of Loki Season 2.

A role won by accident

There's no denying that Loki owes a lot to Tom Hiddleston, who playes the character. It is worth reminding, that the actor got the role by accident.

Director of Thor, Kenneth Branagh, saw Hiddleston in a play based on Shakespeare's work staged in a London theater. After that show, he offered the actor a part in Wallander, and later engaged him for the role of Loki.

As you can see, he secured the role of Loki almost effortlessly. It certainly turned out to be one of the best hits of Hiddleston's career.
