Casino Royale directed by Martin Campbell, is the first film in which Daniel Craig plays the role of Agent 007. Despite their initial dislike of the new James Bond actor, audiences were won over and quietly agreed with the producers that the blue-eyed blonde was a good choice for the new chapter of the franchise.

However, not every fan of the series knows that Daniel Craig and Mads Mikkelsen, partnering him in some scenes, got a little carried away during the filming of a certain sequence. The moment in question is when the villain, Le Chiffre, played by the Dane, tortures the main character by hitting him in the testicles with a knotted rope. In an interview with GQ Mikkelsen revealed that the actors wanted to make this scene even more brutal..

"Daniel Craig, myself and Martin Campbell had a lot of ideas. Daniel came straight from independent, more intimate films, and I had experience in Dealer. We discussed the big torture scene and went deep down the rabbit hole, me and Daniel."

The actors let their imagination run wild and came up with worse and worse tortures that Bond could be subjected to. At one point, however, the director reacted by pointing out that such drastic scenes are not appropriate for a Bond movie.

"We had a lot of ideas that were getting crazier and crazier. At one point Martin said: 'Guys, come back. This is a Bond movie!' We admitted he was right. But he was quite open to suggestions and experiments, as long as they were within the limits of what was appropriate to do in a Bond movie."

This just goes to show how important is the role of the director, who must uphold convention and good taste, especially if you are making productions that belong to a certain canon. While creativity and rich imagination are something essential for an actor, it would not be good if there was no one to make the final artistic decisions for the sake of the film.
