Avatar went down in the history of cinema and to this day occupies the first place in the box-office ranking of all time. Despite the huge success of Jake and Neytri's adventures, we had to wait as long as 13 years for a sequel. During this time, many fans managed to doubt that Cameron would ever realize his dream of an epic pentalogy. The Way of Water saw the light of day, however, meanwhile, work on the set of Avatar 3 is in full swing.

In an interview with People James Cameron talked about the behind-the-scenes of the next parts of the saga. The director said that third movie is on track to hit theaters on December 19, 2025. The lion's share of shooting is already complete.

"We have already done motion capture and shot live action scenes for the third part during parallel production with The Way of Water. We even filmed a good portion of Avatar 4, because in this film all of our young heroes will be significantly aged."

It seems that in the upcoming parts Lo'ak, Tuk and Kiri will enter adulthood, which creates phenomenal narrativepossibilities. Cameron explained why he did some of the shooting for Avatar 4 already in the process of working on The Way of Water.

"In the fourth part, we see our heroes, then we go back six years, and then we return to the present. This return is the part we have not yet shot. We will deal with it as soon as the third movie hits theaters."

One of the most interesting characters in The Way of Water was undoubtedly the head of the oceanic Metkayina tribe - Ronal. The brave representative of the Na'vi was played by Kate Winslet. Cameron admitted that the actress will return in the next installments of the saga. Her character has undergone shamanic training, and we will certainly see its effects on screen.

"Ronal performing a purification ritual to revive Kitty [in The Way of Water - editor's note], and all the things she will do in the third part are the result of real training."

The Way of Water was a remarkable demonstration of the possibilities of modern cinematography. The virtual camera processed reality in three dimensions and two frame formats - traditional 24 and smooth 48 frames per second. It seems that Cameron still loves the universe he created. His next movies will surely express his love - not only for the Na'vi, but also for cinema.
