George R.R. Martin is most famous for creating A Song of Ice and Fire (although currently more from taking so long writing its sixth installment), which was the basis for the much-loved Game of Thrones. One of the episodes of the show appeared on the list of the best TV episodes of the last 25 years according to Vanity Fair.

On his blog the writer was happy to comment on the honorable mention of the episode for which he wrote the script. The episode in question is the ninth episode of the second season - Blackwater, which, as it turns out, is also his favorite.

"Of course, they didn't mention I'm Perfect. They only say that about Blackwater, one of the episodes I wrote for Game of Thrones. (I wrote the script for four of them. And yes, Blackwater is my favorite, although I think The Lion and the Rose also did very well)," Martin revealed.

Recall that the acclaimed episode features a battle between the Lannister army and Stannis Baratheon's troops At the Blackwater River. Tyrion's courage and knowledge made it possible to stop the enemy troops, although it was not the aforementioned character who was given credit for the victory, but his nephew Joffrey.

With its unforgettable atmosphere and depiction of the battle itself and its "backstory," the penultimate episode of the second season solidified Game of Thrones' position as a very good show and attracted more viewers. The high quality level of the episode is also evidenced by ratings - on IMDB Blackwater received a score of 9.7/10.

Beyond Blackwater and The Lion and the Rose (the second episode of the fourth season), Martin also wrote the script for the eighth episode of the first season (The Pointy End), as well as the seventh episode of the third season (The Bear and the Maiden Fair).

Currently, the writer is also involved in the production of House of the Dragon - a spin-off of Game of Thrones, which can be watched on HBO Max. Work is underway on the second season of the show.
