Elijah Wood Looks Like Gollum in His New Movie

Certain roles stay with actors forever - and so Elijah Wood will always be Frodo Baggins. However, this time it is quite different, because the actor has been compared not to the Ring Bearer, but to Gollum, which in turn was played by Andy Serkis. All thanks to photo that hit the web. The frame comes from the upcoming The Toxic Avenger directed by Macon Blair, which is a reboot of the 1984 work of the same name.

The images were shared by Entertainment Weekly. They show, among others, Elijah Wood, who has sparked particular interest among the fans. The character he plays is the wicked Fritz Garbinger, who resembles Gollum, specifically Sméagol at the time when he gradually changed under the effects of the One Ring.

Garbinger, like Gollum, has rotten teeth and is missing half his hair. Fans quickly saw in him a resemblance to the aforementioned character from the books by J.R.R. Tolkien and the trilogy directed by Peter Jackson. In a way, it is also an answer to the many questions and theories of Lord of the Rings fans. This is because those have repeatedly speculated, what would have happened if Frodo Baggins had not destroyed the Ring, but instead disappeared with it. Years of sitting in seclusion could have led to Fritz Garbinger's appearance.

What is the reboot of The Toxic Avenger?

The lead role in this show was played by Peter Dinklage, known for his role as Tyrion Lannister from Game of Thrones. He will play the role of as Winston Gooze, a janitor who unexpectedly falls into a pit of toxic waste. Thanks to it he turns into a deformed mutant with superpowers. Like in the original 1984 movie, the protagonist will set himself the task of destroy all the villains in his hometown.

The original was a black comedy and the new film will retain the same vibe. Although reviewers were able to watch a preview on September 21 at the Fanstastic Fest in Austin, Texas, for now we have not learned the official release date.
