Director David Ayer faces a tremendous sense of injustice. He demonstrated this during an appearance on the Real Ones podcast, hosted by actor Jon Bernthal (via ComicBookMovie). During the conversation the filmmaker was asked by the host about his most painful experience in Hollywood.

The filmmaker revealed that it is related to Suicide Squad. The production, which debuted in 2016, disappointed not only audiences and industry reviewers, but also Ayer himself. The director did not hide his dislike of the movie from the beginning, as the final version of the work allegedly fell short of the creator's original concept.

"Hollywood - that's what I tell people - is like watching someone you love being f***ed by someone you hate. That someone is Suicide Squad. That s**t destroyed me. It laid me flat," Ayer said.

The director also surprised, stating that changes in Suicide Squad were affected by the release of Deadpool and the criticism of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. As a result, it was decided to soften the dark tone of the movie about the adventures of Task Force X.

"I could have done anything and took my chance. I embarked on a journey with Suicide Squad - authentic, real. We did all the rehearsals, we looked into each other's souls. Let's create something amazing from this collaboration, I thought. And then Deadpool came. And because they never tested Batman v Superman, they expected a different reaction, and the critics ate them alive. So they decided that they would turn David Ayer's dark film into a f***ing comedy," he explained.

Recall that Ayer is slowly preparing the ground for the presentation of his own version of Suicide Squad. Admittedly, decisions on the movie's release have not yet been made, but some time ago the filmmaker boasted that James Gunn himself told him that "the time will come to share it with the world." Unfortunately, DC Studios co-director has not publicly announced whether the actual Ayer's Cut will see the light of day.

Finally, it's worth mentioning that this isn't the only pebble the director has thrown into Hollywood's garden. During the same podcast, Ayer did not hide his disappointment, that the industry removed his contribution to the development of The Fast and the Furious.
