Martin Campbell scored his Bond debut back in 1995 with Goldeneye, with Pierce Brosnan in the lead role. He then went on to direct Casino Royale from 2006, in which we first saw Daniel Craig as Agent 007. Since then, the director had nothing to do with the James Bond universe, while the actor remained attached to the role of 007 for the next four movies.

It's been two years since the release of the last installment with Daniel Craig, No Time to Die. Martin Campbell, while searching for a new James Bond replacement, decided to comment on the 2021 production. In an interview with Express the director spared no praise for the actor, but stated that there was too little humor and truly outstanding scenes in the movie itself.

"I think it was interesting. I had mixed feelings about the movie. There were some very good things in it. I think some of the humor was lacking. Probably some of the stunts were not as imaginative as in other Bond productions."

Daniel Craig's beginnings as Bond were not easy. In appearance, the actor differed from his predecessors - he was shorter and blond-haired, which meant that casting him in the role was met with mixed reactions from the fans. Despite the doubts, Craig turned out to be a hit, and Casino Royale became the highest-grossing movie about Agent 007 until the release of Skyfall - also starring Daniel Craig.

As Martin Campbell was the one who introduced Daniel Craig's Bond to theaters, fans may be interested to know what the director thinks of the actor's departure. When reviewing No Time to Die, Campbell added his two cents on the British actor:

"He was a great Bond, there's no doubt about it."

It's good to know that Campbell continues to support Daniel Craig in his modern portrayal of James Bond. The movie featuring the actor can be accused of a lot, but one thing is certain - the next Bond will not have an easy task.
