This Controversial Change Made to Star Wars Almost 20 Years Ago Allowed for Ahsoka's Perfect Ending

The controversial decision that George Lucas made almost twenty years ago now has a completely different tone. For Ahsoka's creator, it was a chance to create the perfect ending for his heroine.

In the finale of Return of the Jedi Luke Skywalker sees three Force ghosts: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda and his father Anakin Skywalker. Originally, the character was played by Sebastian Shaw, but with the making of the prequels, George Lucas decided to make a change in the aforementioned scene and replaced the actor with Hayden Christensen in 2004. The decision of the creator of the universe was not appreciated by Star Wars fans (vide /Film).

The explanations why Anakin shows up as a Force ghost at such a young age did not help at all. It was supposed to be justified by the fact that this was the last time the character was untainted by the Dark Side. However, it was considered that the actor swap was somehow erasing Sebastian Shaw, who, after all, helped build the world's most popular science fiction universe.

However, it was Lucas' decision is what made the two trilogies consistent with each other and with Disney's new shows. Thanks to it, in the finale of Ahsoka Hayden Christensen could return in the form of a Force ghost, and Dave Filoni served the show a perfect ending.

At the very end, we can see that Anakin Skywalker's Force ghost is watching Ahsoka and gently smiling at her, although she is not aware of his presence. Thanks to this short scene, viewers can get the impression that the master is still watching over his apprentice and is satisfied with the path she has taken in rediscovering the Force.

The moment described is reminiscent of the finale of Obi-Wan Kenobi. It is then that the title character first sees the Force ghost of his master Qui-Gon Jinn. He addresses him with the words: "I thought you would never show up," to which Qui-Gon Jinn replies: "I was always here, Obi-Wan. You just weren't ready to see me."

A similar situation seems to be happening with Ahsoka, who has so far been afraid to follow Anakin, thinking that she might not be able to resist the Dark Side. Until now, the character has not been able to live in harmony with herself and the Force. Her experiences in the show helped her find peace and at the very end of the series she was able to sense Anakin's presence, but did not see him. So maybe in the second season or in a movie combining the plots of Ahsoka, Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett we will see that the main character will train under the guidance of her master, with whom she will already be able to fully communicate.
