The making of Blade reboot is increasingly certain, so fans of the character may rejoice. As recently as January 2023, Stephen Dorff scoffed at the possible movie, assuming that it would be a weak teen movie and would not find a director willing to stand at the helm. Now we know that the new Blade not only has a director, in the form of Yann Demange, but was also rated R (vide Deadline).

With this, the movie joins Deadpool 3, which also boasts such a high category. This means that a large dose of violence and brutality will be waiting for the audience, which will definitely help to adequately portray Blade's never-ending battle with vampires. According to Yann Demange, it's also a great opportunity to use Mahershala Ali's potential:

"In the case of Blade we will have a lot of fun, because Mahershala is a versatile actor. I'm excited about the opportunity to show his brutality and roughness, which enables him to walk the earth in a specific way. I love him for that. He has dignity and integrity, but there is also a certain ferocity that he usually keeps hidden inside. I want to release all this and show it on the screen."

The director's words are certainly a positive sign for the actor who is to play Blade. It was recently reported that at some point Mahershala Ali was ready to leave the project, as the script began to take a ridiculous form and moved the main character to the sidelines, putting more focus on a moralizing story with a female protagonist in the lead.

Unfortunately, it is still unclear when to expect the movie's release. For the time being, it has been pushed back to 2025. However, the actors' strike is still ongoing, and only the end of the strike will allow work on the set to begin, which, for the time being, is not expected.
