The work on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has been dragging on for quite some time, with reports of various disputes and disagreements. One of the main provocateurs of these problems is believed to be the new DC management, whose plans reportedly forced the director to make massive changes to the movie. The situation was not helped by Amber Heard, whose conflict with Johnny Depp seriously tarnished her reputation. James Wan, the sequel's director, has a different take on all this, which he shared with Empire.

The filmmaker says that news outlets are aiming for drama and movement, but these reports do not reflect his experience with the movie. Wan stresses that he had full creative freedom and control, and that there were no serious problems on the set with reshoots and rewrites that took place over a couple of weeks.

"I had to learn to be more calm in dealing with all the noise around me. I'm a fairly private person. I don't go on social media and I don't get into arguments, but it's difficult because there has been a narrative that doesn't match reality. The hype is fun to write about and attracts clicks, but people don't know the truth."

Recent reports also suggested that the movie struggled with poor reception from test audiences, forcing the filmmakers to apply a large number of revisions. Additionally, alleged conflicts between stars Jason Momoa and Amber Heard were said to have created a rather toxic work environment. Wan dismisses all rumors, saying that he tries not to correct bad reports publicly.

The second part of Aquaman faced an uphill battle from the beginning of production. In the middle of the work, the DC studio was taken over by James Gunn and Peter Safran, who began to set a completely new direction for the entire DC universe. However, according to James Wan, none of this affected Aquaman in the way that some have claimed. What's more, director revealed his desire to direct a possible third installment if given the opportunity.

"I haven't directed a third movie [in a series] before, so I would be open to doing another [Aquaman], if I had the same freedom I had with the first two. However, I'm not sure what direction they [Gunn and Safran - ed. note] are going in, so who knows? I've learned to never say never."

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will hit theaters on December 20, and hopefully all the chaos surrounding the movie won't affect its final quality.
