Well known to comic book fans, British author Alan Moore, who created, among other titles, the famous Watchmen has made no secret of the fact that is not satisfied with the shape taken by the adaptation of his work, for which HBO is responsible. Although it's been a while since the interview, it's worth recalling it. In an interview with GQ the artist stressed that he wants nothing to do with the station that destroyed his vision and the filmmakers who manipulated the source material.

Moore revealed that some time ago he received a letter from Damon Lindelof, the showrunner of the series, in which he asked for advice and at the same time apologized for what he was doing in adapting Watchmen. The creator of the original, however, had no intention of hiding what he thinks about the adaptation, and the fact that he has no intention of contacting those responsible for it for any reason.

"[I got - ed. note] a letter from the showrunner of the TV adaptation of Watchmen, the existence of which I had no idea at the time. But the letter began with the words: 'Dear Mr. Moore, I am one of the bastards currently destroying Watchmen'. It was not the best start.

I explained to him that I had relinquished my work on the project, and that this was partly due to the fact that the film and comic book industries seemed to be creating things that had nothing to do with my work [...]. I replied: 'Look, this is embarrassing to me. I don’t want anything to do with you or your show. Please don’t bother me again.'".

In the interview, the artist added that any conversation with people from HBO would be torture for him. In turn, in a message to the showrunner, he wrote that no one from Warner Bros. was to contact him again. Well, Alan Moore's response is uncompromising, but one can understand why the author does not want to enter close (or rather, any) relations with producers and decision-makers from the station.

The main point is that the author of Watchmen believes that through the TV adaptation, viewers have no idea what the original work really was, and think that the HBO series is a faithful adaptation. Moreover, he believes that the filmmakers did not understand the source material. After all, the comic book creator never wanted a dark and dystopian superhero franchise with white supremacy in the background.
