Yakuza and Persona Will See Movie Adaptations?

Sonic the blue hedgehog has received two live-action movies, proving to the character's owner that game adaptations can make sense. Especially since, with a budget of $110 million Sonic 2 earned more than $400 million. Now Sega is looking at other brands it owns and is paying particular attention to Yakuza and Persona, which have huge fan bases (vide CNBC).

Sega's COO, Shuji Utsumi, did not indicate that only screen adaptations of the aforementioned games are planned. The developer is considering various possibilities, one of which is even expected to be a collaboration with Roblox, in order to present the biggest brands to a wider audience. According to Utsumi, no universe has to be limited to video games only:

Sega is particularly looking at Yakuza and Persona as brands that could go beyond the realm of digital entertainment. Shuji Utsumi did not elaborate on how the developer would like to present the two series to wider audiences.. Movie adaptations of video games seem to be one of the best choices that can bring in really big revenues.

Result of Sonic definitely confirms this. The cinematic universe is growing and even before the release of the second part a third movie was greenlit, as well as a serialized spin-off focusing on the character of Knuckles. This is a clear signal for Sega, especially since other game adaptations have also been quite successful recently.
