However, it may turn out that the post-apocalyptic universe will also see development in the form of other TV or movie projects. Related:'It Resembled The Last of Us;' David Fincher is Happy That World War Z Sequel Got Canceled In an interview with The Wrap (via Screen Rant), the screenwriter commented on the possibility of creating spin-offs of the well-received show with Pedro Pascal. Mazin's words may inspire optimism, and although the filmmaker has not yet spoken in detail with game developer Neil Druckman on the subject, he is confident that also the latter is eager to develop the franchise in this direction. "We haven't talked about it very specifically yet, because we are focused on telling the main story. I'm not against the idea of other shows using characters from this world. (...) I'm sure Neil would also be interested. If it was something that made sense, I see no reason not to do it," he said. Mazin, however, could not guarantee that, due to his workload, he would be the one behind the camera of possible spin-offs, although he does not rule out such an option. So the question remains as to which characters the expanding shows could focus on. The first answer that comes to mind is a spin-off focused on Bill and Frank. Recall that the episode telling the story of their love won critical and viewer acclaim. Interestingly, actors playing the aforementioned characters, Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett already expressed a desire to take part in the project, which would take a more detailed look at the men's relationship. "You're right (...). It would be great to go back and fill in all the gaps, add a lot to the story. After all, their story covers 20 years," Offerman said in an interview with Total Film. Recall that the first season of The Last of Us can be found on HBO Max.
