The Last Of Us Creator Removes His Name From Borderlands Movie Credits

Craig Mazin, the acclaimed filmmaker behind the script for the HBO miniseries Chernobyl, was honored with an Emmy award. Recently, his popularity has taken a new twist with the high-profile adaptation of a video game - The Last of Us.

After the success of this year's release of HBO's show, Mazin decided to set his sights on another big adaptation. He worked on the script based on the work of Gearbox - Borderlands. In the credits, however, viewers will not find the name of the acclaimed filmmaker. As we can read on Writer's Guild, the authors of the screenplay are Eli Roth and Joe Crombie. The latter is believed to be Mazin's pseudonym.

Officially, it is not known why the screenwriter did not want to include his name in the film's credits. However, it can be speculated as to the reason for such a decision. Often filmmakers decide to distance themselves from a production when they are not satisfied with its final form. It is possible that this was the case here, or that Mazin did not have total control over the project or creative freedom while working.

It should also be noted that Borderlands movie has traveled a long and troubled road. The project was announced in 2015, and since then a number of creators have been associated with it. Eventually, shooting was to be completed in 2021, but two years later it was announced that Tim Miller would handle the finishing touches. A new screenwriter, Zak Olkewicz, also joined the team.
