The Archies premieres this week on Netflix. This is what new Riverdale looks like

The Riverdale series concluded in August this year, but that doesn't signify the end of the Archies comic book adaptations. The musical The Archies, made in a more Bollywood style, will be available on Netflix starting from December 7th. That's why we can expect plenty of music and dancing in the new story about teenagers coming of age (see Collider).

Netflix didn't reveal many specifics about the plot. However, we know that The Archies is supposed to be a story about entering adulthood. The familiar comic book characters such as Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, Reggie, Ethel, and Dilton will make an appearance, but the audience will see them from a different perspective due to the story being relocated to the Anglo-Indian community.

The director of The Archies is Zoya Akhtar, who is also responsible for the script and is the producer of the film. In August 2022, she mentioned that it was a privilege for her to participate in the Indian adaptation of the Archies comics and also to be in charge of the first-ever film adaptation of the legendary series. The plot of the film is set in the 1960s, which was intended to be a revolutionary period for comics as they transitioned from the old format to the one they are known for today.

The film's cast consists of many aspiring actors and children of famous Bollywood stars who are now starting their own careers. The trailer for the film, released in November, indicated that viewers can anticipate an atmospheric setting and, of course, plenty of dancing and music. In the dialogues, English and Hindi languages are intermingled, adding to the atmosphere.
