Marvel Director Fears Death Threats After Reveal in Secret Invasion

The life of a filmmaker is not easy. Especially screwed are filmmakers who have to work with brands loved by millions. In doing so, they expose themselves to the biased judgment of the fan community, and these fans - as we have seen more than once - can be really cruel. The director of Secret Invasion, Ali Selim, is beginning to feel it.

The creator of MCU's latest show recently revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, that he was concerned about death threats after the show's finale revealed that Colonel James Rhodes aka War Machine had been a Skrull for a long time.

As if that wasn't enough, at the very beginning of Secret Invasion Agent Maria Hill, who had been a presence in the Marvel universe for many years, dies.

Aside from the fact that the plot of the character played by Cobie Smulders ended, it is the plot twist with Rhodes that has received the most criticism. MCU fans feel bitterness at the thought that Tony Stark's death in Avengers: Endgame was witnessed not by his best friend, but some anonymous Skrull spy.

This, according to them, took away the weight of the hero's sacrifice and the magic of the last moments of his life at the side of his loved ones.

Frustration with these and several other choices by the filmmakers made Secret Invasion gain just 53% of positive audience reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Not much kinder were the industry reviewers, only 55 of whom praised the show.
