Kathleen Kennedy on Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2; 'I Hesitated'

The first season of Obi-Wan Kenobi was received relatively well by audiences, and decent ratings on Disney+ should motivate the creators to make a sequel. However, recent statements by Lucasfilm's CEO do not indicate this at all.

Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, recently spoke out in an episode of Dagobah Dispatch podcast on plans for the next season of Obi-Wan Kenobi. It would seem that a continuation is only a matter of time, as despite mixed reviews, the show has been received quite well by viewers and achieved some of the best viewing figures of all Star Wars series on Disney+.

This impressive achievement was apparently not enough, and fans may be disappointed, as Kennedy revealed that there are currently no plans for another season. This does not mean that one will never be made. The character, meanwhile, played by Ewan McGregor can always appear in other stories from this universe.

Is this the end of Obi-Wan?

We also learn from the podcast that Kathleen Kennedy has a soft spot for Obi-Wan, so there is a chance that he will somehow be included in the adventures of characters from other productions.

"I always hesitate to say no to more Obi-Wan Kenobi. Maybe we'll do something that will be incorporated into other stories or eventually into a film, but who knows? At the moment, this is our standard standalone limited series, we have no plans for a sequel," Kennedy explained.

The first season left a couple of threads that have the potential to be developed in interesting ways. Ewan McGregor himself expressed his desire to do another season. The possibilities to lead the story are indeed numerous - the creators could show the further fate of Reva and reveal to us how, and if at all, Qui-Gon Jinn supported his padawan after the fall of the Jedi.
