Netflix's Beef With a Golden Globe. Here's What Last Year's Hit is About

Netflix broke the bank with its Beef series, which won a total of five Golden Globes. Last year's hit is available on the streaming platform, and it's worth checking out why it gathered so much recognition at the awards ceremony.

Beef wasn't the high-profile Netflix series that was being talked about everywhere, but the Golden Globes ceremony showed that the series was worth checking out. The series received awards in several categories: Best Limited Series, Anthology Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television; Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture Made for Television; Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television. This proves the merits of taking note of this overlooked show.

Lee Sung Jin's series depicts the potential outcome of people releasing their suppressed negative emotions in an extreme situation. Danny Cho and Amy Lau met after nearly getting into a collision in the parking lot. Both sides' reactions turned a situation that could have lasted a few seconds into a chase, and then mutual sabotage of life.

Lee Sung Jin expressed his gratitude to the individual who inspired his series during the award ceremony for the Best Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television. The creator was impressed by the aggressive reaction of an ordinary driver (vide Netflix Tudum):

I'd be remiss not to thank that driver. Sir, I hope you honk and yell and inspire others for years to come.

Beef comprises ten episodes, each lasting between 30 and 40 minutes. There were reports in the summer of 2023 that the show might get renewed for another season. The Golden Globes could provide additional motivation for Lee Sung Jin to innovate and either continue the story of the main characters or develop an entirely new narrative, expanding the series as an anthology.
