Andy Serkis will appear in the next season of Andor, bringing fans closer to the further fate of Kino Loy. The last time we saw the character was when he escaped from prison, when all the inmates jumped into the water, and he confessed that he could not swim. What happened to him next, we do not know, but in anticipation of the new installment the star decided to reveal what backstory he came up with for his character. Knowing about Kino Loy's past was supposed to help the actor build the role, and although his backstory isn't very elaborate, it still brings something new to the image of Cassian's ally (via The Hollywood Reporter).

According to the actor, Kino Loy is "someone who once had a family, worked in a union store and was ready to fight for workers' rights." However, he was eventually arrested and was violently taught to obey the system. The atmosphere of oppression was aided by the prison setting and the costumes the inmates, who were actually actors, had to wear, as Andy Serkis also mentioned:

"The strangest thing about the whole process was the peculiar loss of self by wearing paper costumes and going barefoot. In each successive week everyone looked like a copy, you had the feeling that you had lost your personality. In addition, the whole scenery seemed to be unselfish in its clinical purity. It did strange things to your head, as if it had been created specifically for that."

The actor's words can be read as praise for the filmmakers, who actually succeeded in creating prison-like conditions in which a person feels like another number and is more obedient.. Fortunately, Kino Loy eventually breaks out of the system and helps Cassian Andor organize a rebellion that enables the prisoners to escape from the hated place.

The question remains as to what happened to Kino Loy after the prison revolution. Did the Imperials capture him again and this time make more of an effort to make the man submissive? Or did he somehow break out of prison and join the budding resistance movement? Second season of Andor will bring the answer to this question in 2024.
