Twisted Metal Season 2 Announced; Anthony Mackie Will Return

The Game Awards 2023 gala brought a number of fantastic announcements. In addition to a solid portion of game announcements, we also got a handful of TV surprises - one of which was announced by Anthony Mackie. He officially declared the arrival of the second season of Twisted Metal, in which the star will return as John Doe.

Twisted Metal will get a 2nd season

Shortly after this announcement, Peacock, which is responsible for the show, released a modest footage, thereby confirming another season of the well-received adaptation of the 1995 game. Also showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith added his two cents:

Twisted Metal was among the nominees for Best Game Adaptation, but ultimately had to accept defeat. Not surprisingly, after all, its rival was the victorious The Last of Us, which attracted a ton of viewers and received hundreds of positive reviews from both critics and the public itself.

Despite losing the competition, Twisted Metal can boast very decent ratings. On Rotten Tomatoes the show was positively rated by 94% of viewers and 68% of critics.

Recall that the show in question debuted this year at the end of July. Those interested can watch all ten episodes on HBO Max.

The creators have so far not shared an approximate release date for the next season. However, since work on the new season is just around the corner, we can suspect that the show will arrive within a year or two.

A successful year for game adaptations

It must be admitted that 2023 was full of successful adaptations of video games. In addition to the aforementioned The Last of Us, which will also live to see a second season, or the discussed Twisted Metal, we also got the warmly received Super Mario Bros. The Movie based on Nintendo's iconic brand.

Encouraged by its success, Nintendo is not slowing down and is already planning an adaptation of its other famous franchise, this time in a live-action version - this is, of course, The Legend of Zelda.
