'Never Again'; Zoe Saldana Recalls Bad Experiences on the Set of Pirates of the Caribbean

Zoe Saldana has starred in productions belonging to major movie franchises. However, working on the set of one of them proved to be extremely demotivating and disappointing.

Zoe Saldana has gained recognition for her participation in such blockbusters as Avatar, Guardians of the Galaxy or Avengers: Endgame. However, there is one production that the actress definitely does not miss. We are talking about Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. The actress does not regard her experience from the set as positive, which she artist talked about as a guest on BBC Radio 1.

The shooting of the first installment of the profitable Disney franchise was described by the artist as disappointing, and portraying Anamaria, the pirate who joined Jack Sparrow's crew, represents one of the worst experiences of her career.

"For me, it really wasn't a good experience because of the management that took place at the time, and Jerry Bruckheimer knew about it - eventually we talked about it. He read somewhere how I expressed my dissatisfaction and disappointment, and years later he apologized to me for it, which I consider honorable behavior."

Although, after a while, producer Jerry Bruckheimer expressed regret about the actress' not-so-good experience on the set of Pirates of the Caribbean, the time after the shooting itself was particularly difficult for Saldana. Working on the movie had an extremely demotivating effect on her.

"After this experience I thought 'Never gain,' I'll stay in New York and work from New York and that's it. And then Steven Spielberg saw my tape [...], I met with him, I worked with Diego Luna and Tom Hanks, and it was a dream come true."

So Steven Spielberg saved the actress' faith in the movie industry. Despite the positive experience on the set of The Terminal, Zoe Saldana decided not to return to Pirates of the Caribbean.
