Liam Neeson Reveals Why He Doesn't Like the Direction of Star Wars

Star Wars is a true phenomenon. The brand, which was born in 1977, has enjoyed the same, if not increasing, popularity for decades. And while the influx of fresh fans is due to new movie and TV productions, the real source of the franchise's uniqueness lies in its first feature-length stories.

Actor Liam Neeson is well aware of this, having recently participated in Conan O'Brien's podcast. In a conversation with the host, the actor portraying Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn in The Phantom Menace made no secret of the fact that he doesn't like the direction Star Wars is taking. The star said that the cult surrounding the universe is being diminished by the flood of new stories that we've seen in recent years in both cinema and television.

It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time Neeson has been critical of the current policy of Lucasfilm and Disney. Some time ago, the actor spoke out in a similar tone, saying that new projects from the universe were fragmenting the brand and taking away its 'mystery and magic.' At the time, the star argued that he did not intend to put his hand to it, and aside from his brief appearance in Obi-Wan Kenobi he has no plans to return to the franchise.

Neeson's displeasure is hardly surprising. When the Brit first debuted in the role of Qui-Gon, the lineup of Star Wars included only three movies, two short animated series and one special episode. It has now grown to eleven theatrical productions, many animated features and just as many live-action series. And it doesn't stop there, as Disney is working on more projects.
