On the contrary, smaller services are starting to make bolder moves, as confirmed by the example of Hulu. And I'm not talking about the attractive subscription price, but the programming offer that its rivals can already envy.

An undeniable advantage of Hulu is that it belongs to Disney. Thanks to this, the library of this website includes not only new productions, but also some classics, ranging from laugh-out-loud comedies, tear-jerking melodramas, to terrifying and suspenseful horror films.

The offer is so rich that it may be difficult to decide what to watch. We're well aware of this, which is why we've prepared a list of the best movies available on Hulu.

Shaun of the Dead

Edgar Wright's work tells the story of thirty-year-old Englishman named Shaun (played by the wonderful Simon Pegg), a lifelong loser who spends most of his time with his good friend Ed in The Winchester pub. As if that wasn't enough, his girl leaves him (we're not surprised), and the city is taken over by... hordes of bloodthirsty zombies (we're kinda surprised). Found in a stalemate, Shaun decides to prove his potential.

Shaun of the Dead is a real phenomenon. A low-budget production mixing horror with comedy might seem like a recipe for the worst mess ever. Surprisingly, this movie is beautiful in its ugliness and many people will tell you that, even those who usually prefer more ambitious cinema. This production was even appreciated by the Time magazine, which placed Shaun of the Dead at the top of its list of the 25 best horror films in history.

Die Hard

You may not like action movies, but you MUST watch Die Hard at least once. Why? This movie is a classic of cinematography. If anyone doubted the quality of the above movie, suffice it to say that the film received as many as four Oscar nominations, and in 2017 was included in the National Film Registry, a collection of productions that build the cultural heritage of the United States and are kept in the Library of Congress. In addition, the action takes place on Christmas Eve, so the upcoming holidays are a perfect excuse to organize a small screening.

The Banshees of Inisherin

There have already been two older productions, so it's time for something much fresher. The action of The Banshees of Inisherin takes place on an Irish island. We meet Pádraic, who's devastated because his best friend Colm ends their friendship without warning. A disoriented Pádraic confronts his buddy and finds out that he no longer enjoys spending time with him. The man, however, has no intention of forsaking the old relationship and is determined to regain his old bond with Colm.

The Banshees of Inisherin, directed by Martin McDonagh, is an incredibly simple but beautiful film. Its charm primarily comes from the vivid performances of Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, which earned both the gentlemen Oscar nominations (the film received a total of nine).

Alien

After the triumph of Star Wars: A New Hope in 1977, creating another science fiction work set in space wasn't an easy task. Nevertheless, two years later (in 1979), Ridley Scott took a risk and released the horror film Alien . As it soon turned out, it was one of the best decisions in the famous director's career.

Millions of viewers held their breath as they followed the fate of the spaceship crew, who had to fight a bloodthirsty alien creature hiding on board the Nostromo. This chilling story has made such a mark on global pop culture that over the decades, it's not only been turned into many more movies, but also inspired a series of games, books, and comics. However, none of these managed to match, not to mention surpass, the original, which is still considered an all-time classic.

Nomadland

In 2020, in the film Nomadland, directed by Chloé Zhao, showed the real life of modern nomads. The camera follows a woman named Fern (Frances McDormand), who, after losing her husband and job, decides to just get in the car and start driving. During her extraordinary journey, Fern meets other nomads who, in addition to the ability to cope with the constant perills of the journey, teach her a completely new perspective on life.

The quality of Zhao's work is proven not only by very positive opinions of critics and viewers, but also by three Oscar statuettes awarded in the categories "Best Picture," "Best Leading Actress" and "Best Director".

We particularly recommend the film to people who, like Fern, have found themselves at a point in life where the future looks utterly bleak.

Bohemian Rhapsody

Bryan Singer's work not only accentuates the exceptional vocal abilities and path to fame of the musician born in Tanzania, but also his struggles with his own sexuality, huge ego, and mortal sickness.

Level 91 At the 2019 Academy Awards, Bohemian Rhapsody won four awards, including best leading actor, which went to Rami Malek for his wonderful portrayal of Freddy Mercury.

Another Round

Another Round, Thomas Vinterberg, Eurimages, 2020

The year 2020 was rich in great movies. One of them was Another Round, a funny, insightful and ultimately poignant picture by Danish director Thomas Vinterberg. The protagonists of this Oscar-winning production for the best international film are four unfulfilled teachers, who decide to check how systematic microdosing of alcoholic will affect the quality of their work and life. And although at first, the gentlemen see a definite improvement in their lives, their "cure" for midlife crisis turns out to have very unpleasant consequences.

One of the main advantages of this movie is the fantastic performance by Mads Mikkelsen. The fact that the actor didn't even receive an Oscar nomination for the role of Martin is a huge misunderstanding.

Holiday

On Hulu, you will also find light romantic comedies. One of them is Holiday, a must-watch for the upcoming Christmas season. This production is the work of Nancy Meyers – an expert in simple but meaningful movies – who not only stood behind the camera, but also wrote the script.

The plot shows the fate of two women: Amanda (Cameron Diaz) from California and Iris (Kate Winslet) from England, who, after the troubles they encountered, decide to switch their homes for Christmas. In this way, Amanda lives in a charming English town, while Iris basks in the luxuries of Los Angeles, and subsequently, two charming individuals appear in their lives, and through them, the heroines find joy and love.

I can say that Holiday tastes best when wrapped in a warm blanket and with a mug of hot chocolate in hand. This way, it seems even more charming, and the memories associated with the session stay with us for a long time.

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation was included in our list out of pure nostalgia. At the Christmas Eve table, Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) is a must, as is his crazy brother-in-law Eddie (Randy Quaid), and the rest of their equally bonkers family.

As in all installments of this series, in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Clark wants only one thing: to give his loved ones the best possible time. As it happens, the occasion for this is Christmas, which the aforementioned head of the family organizes with great elan. Everyone who knows the previous adventures of the Griswolds knows that things don't go as they should, and the magical period turns into a real horror, which can only be survived by getting drunk on classic egg nog.

Despite the multitude of hilarious gags, the film National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation also carries a message – the entire marketing aspect of Christmas is not important; it's all about those few days spent with our loved ones.

Predator: Prey

There was an alien, there must also be his nemesis – the Predator. We are, of course, talking about Prey, a Hulu original. When the film was approaching its premiere in 2022, probably no one believed that the new spectacle about the iconic space hunter would have any artistic value. This is hardly surprising, since we haven't received anything as good since the first Predator (1987). Quite unexpectedly, Prey gained recognition not only from critics, but also from the audience. Furthermore, some people even state this work can confidently stand right next to the hit with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

What worked in favor of Dan Trachtenberg's film was primarily a fresh plot for this series. The action takes place on the Great Plains of North America in the early 18th century, and it tells the story of a young girl from the Comanche tribe (Amber Midthunder), who wants to prove to her tribesmen that she's no less a warrior than the men who hold power over her. Unfortunately, she encounters the Predator.

As an interesting fact, it's worth mentioning that Hulu offers this film in both English and the classic Comanche language.
