After 22 Years, Best War Show Gets a $300M Sequel with Austin Butler

War movies, like any other, can be successful or unsuccessful, and the success of a given production is often determined by a high budget. It enables the filmmakers to polish the work to the maximum, often placing more emphasis on special effects, historical details and fast-paced action than on the relationships between the characters. However, there are war productions, which today are considered ideal because in addition to an impressive account of events, they also bring well-drawn psychological profiles of characters and universal messages and ideas. Therefore, we can call such productions masterpieces of war cinema. Band of Brothers or The Pacific are among the best such works in their genre. Now they will be joined by one more show - Masters of the Air.

Why should you be interested in this show? Masters of the Air is a work whose producers are Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg The same men were behind the two aforementioned productions. So it can be said that the upcoming series will be the culmination of this trilogy. 22 years separate it from the already iconic Band of Brothers.

Like the previous works, Masters of the Air will focus on the World War II period. As viewers we will follow the fate of the pilot of the 100th Bomb Group, a unit of the United States Air Force in Europe. The main role will be played by Austin Butler. The series is based on Donald L. Miller's 2006 book of the same name. The production cost could be as high as $300 million.

As you can guess, the plot will focus on air combat during World War II. It will present the heroic story of young pilots who risked their lives fighting in the skies against the German Luftwaffe. Following the success of such movies as Dunkirk or Top Gun: Maverick expectations are high for Spielberg and Hanks' new show.

There is no specific release date yet, but it is projected for 2023, although due to the ongoing strikes in Hollywood Apple TV may postpone it.
